Renovation of a 76 m2 Altbau flat in Berlin Neukölln. The main challenge was to change an old Berlin layout apartment to modern standards and clients needs. The flat was design for a young couple. The main goal was to create an open living room / kitchen but still keep two bedrooms. To achieve that a partition wall between two rooms was demolished, creating a big 40 m2 living space, kitchen was moved to an open space and converted to a spare guest room / office. It divided the space to a day- on the south side and night- on the north side, functional rooms. Bathroom was extended to an old kitchen cabinet to provide a natural light and fit both a big bathtub and shower. Big build in furniture on the long wall in an open spice create both a gate to day function part and a full height storage space for the whole apartment. Soon the flat will be enjoyed by a new member, so planing ahead to keep two bedroom was a smart choice.
